TRY SOMETHING ELSE

 received the item as a gift, and I didn't already have a trimmer, so I decided to open the package and use it despite the myriad negative reviews. I have an average beard - not too thick, not too thin, but full face coverage. I keep it trimmed under 1 inch almost all the time, and usually much shorter.

Packaging:
The package is a blister pack which encloses the trimmer, attachments, carrying case, the base stand/holder, and a charging adapter. The charging adapter can be attached to the base stand, although it's a pretty cheesy design. The packaging is attractive and protective in PET recyclable plastic, and all the necessary operating parts are included.

Design:
The base stand/holder is thin plastic, cheaply made, and barely functional. The attachments are likewise cheap, poorly made plastic with barely functional adjusting mechanism. The trimmer unit has a fixed internal battery which is charged by plugging in a 1.6 volt, 80 mA power supply with positive tip - a small yellow one that is the same size often used to charge mobile phones and bluetooth devices. Previous reviewers are correct in saying that the trimmer cannot be powered directly from a wall outlet. The user can leave it plugged in during operation, but it will not draw wall power in any way (the LED indicator shuts off) when the trimmer switch is on. The trimmer unit seems thus far to be solidly built.

Function:
I gave the item 2 stars because it works for trimming facial hair, but not very well. It cuts slowly and awkwardly even through hair on accessible areas of the face and neck. Attachments are adjustable for various hair lengths, but the user soon discovers that the attachment and adjustment mechanisms are inexact and flimsy.

As other reviews have pointed out, this is not professional-grade equipment by any stretch and not something likely to last you a lifetime. However, it is a very good little trimmer, especially given the relatively low cost. It comes with a good assortment of attachments, and it's been doing a great job of keeping my beard trimmed. I do not use it to trim other body hair, and would not suggest it as a tool for maintaining large areas or large amounts of hair. I like the stand that it comes with since it neatly contains the trimmer and attachments in one handy unit.

If asked, "Would you buy this product again if you had it to do all over?" My answer would be "In a heartbeat!"

To begin with I read the instructions. I charged the battery for 10 hours before using and it has run flawlessly for a month without a recharge. You can't just leave this plugged in all the time. Basically, run the battery down and recharge for 10 hours.

The trimmer is light and feels good in my hand. The attachments snap in and out easily and they are washable. The blades are sharp and do not require oiling.

For years I used Wahl trimmers. In fact, I bought one again but when I got it home it didn't work right so I decided to give this one a try. Frankly, there is no comparison. This Norelco is really that much better than any of the Wahl's I've owned over the years.
 

My husband has been using beard trimmers to cut his head hair for many years and has gone though a few of them. The best one was an old Norelco which you could use off of AC power or on battery power. Unfortunately, someone stole it from him and I hope they enjoyed it because he would not only trim his head hair with said product. Next was this one which lasted quite a few years but just recently stopped holding a charge. Since you can not operate product plugged in it was rendered useless and this new purchase for the exact model is replacing it. He likes the fade ranges and ease of use selecting a trim height. Sometimes your finger could accidently release the trimmer head from the body which is inconvenient. From a quality perspective it doesnt last too long, he is just replacing it because it is familiar to him and he is used to it but do not expect to get 10 years out of this because once the battery goes it is useless. But for 14 bucks the amount of money you save not getting haircuts or getting waxed makes it worth it.

At this point with so many reviews of this trimmer there is not really much I can add that will be too helpful I'm afraid. Suffice it to say that this is a very well priced shaver/trimmer that has all the attachments one could want for everything from trimming hair, to that of your nose and ears as well. It's small, easy to hold and handle, and shaped in such a way that makes even doing ones back of the neck easy. It charges up quickly and lasts long enough to do several trimming jobs before you need to plug it in again. About the only couple of things I can say I don't like about this trimmer is there is no stand that comes with it for storing it upright in between charges. (but they do give you a little nylon bag to store all the attachments in). That wouldn't be so bad, save for the fact that the trimmers bottom is very small and it tips over easily when you just set it down upright. It would have been nice if they either offered a little stand to store it in, or made the base of the unit a little bigger for stability. The other is a minor irritant, but one that I am sure many will well identify with. The instruction booklet is not a booklet at all but one of those big thin fold out papers like the the old road maps.
